Electro-Voice
More detailed description, history and development of technologies, as well as a list of produced models
1927, Indiana. In the basement of a tire factory, a few men in felt hats are studying blueprints. These were the first steps in the emergence of the global brand Electro-Voice. EV is a classic example of the American fairy tale, what is called "from rags to riches", because today this company is considered one of the leaders in the market of manufacturers of sound equipment, acoustic systems, microphones and radio systems, and its products are used all over the world. Occupying a leading position in the audio technology market, EV is widely engaged in equipping cultural and sports institutions, churches, cinemas, clubs, theaters, railway stations, airports and other public buildings.
Even today, EV maintains a reputation as one of the best manufacturers of audio products and a developer of new technologies. Today, the company is a Telex Communications brand, and its technologies are used in other Telex brands such as Dynacord, Klark-Teknik, Midas, RTS and TELEX.
1934 – EV invents a microphone coil that suppresses AC line noise, still in use today, 70 years later.
1940 – The microphone is equipped with a noise absorber, EV technology revolutionizes air and tank communications.
1954 – EV develops Variable-D (low-pass control) technology to reduce low-frequency noise in the widely used unidirectional microphones. This allows for clearer sound when using the microphone in churches during worship, conference rooms, and other similar settings.
1963 – EV receives an Academy Award for the 642 Cardiline microphone, which significantly improves the quality of sound on film.
1974 EV invents the constant-directivity sound pickup (CD pickup). This made it possible for the first time to maintain a wide frequency range coverage, resulting in clearer, more uniform sound and better speech perception by the audience.
1986 – EV revolutionizes the concept of improving sound quality at concerts by introducing Manifold technology. A single speaker or subwoofer broadcasts with the performance of four loudspeakers. As a result, the equipment is smaller in size and produces four times louder and better quality sound, while eliminating distortion associated with the physical arrangement of the speakers.
1990 – EV invents RMD (Ring Mode Docoupling) technology, a unique system that eliminates sound distortion and coloration by extraneous noise. Sound clarity is achieved by minimizing the main resonant frequencies.
2000 – EV invents the latest VOB (Vocal Optimized Bass) technology, which reduces noise when close to the microphone, improves the listener's perception of sound and expands the potential sound of musical instruments. Another revolutionary achievement of the company is the invention of the best-in-class wireless Clearscan technology, which provides fast automatic selection of the best of 10 channels of ultra-high frequencies.
2001 – EV invents RACE (Real-time Acoustic Cluster Editor) technology, which allows for the correlation of a digital crossover and sound filtering system with the actual sound of the speaker. Thanks to this, it becomes possible to control and predict the magnitude, phase and directivity of complex speaker antenna arrays.
2002 – EV launches the IRIS (Intelligent Remote & Integrated Supervision) system, combining the capabilities of remote amplifier control and the processing of complex RACE data in order to ensure a perfect match between the parameters of the acoustic transducer and the electrical parameters on which they depend.

EVI Vari Intense
The unique EV EVI Vari intense loudspeakers are designed to eliminate the clutter of additional equipment in large rooms. They are an economical solution for permanent installation in rectangular halls. Typically, in such rooms, the distance from the speaker to the last row is 2 or more times greater than to the first row, which affects the volume and clarity of the sound in the last rows. The VI loudspeaker provides an increase in the sound pressure level in the back rows by 6-8 dB, compensating for the loss of sound without the help of additional equipment. Thus, EV solves an old problem in a new way. EVI is ideal for conference rooms, churches and other places where an even distribution of sound level is required throughout the room. The EVI speaker cabinet is made of 18 mm plywood (birch, 13 layers), the grille is treated with metal powder. To calculate the EVI radius, the following approximate calculation applies: the audience width should be 2 times its height, and the length should be 3 times its height (see the figure below).
EVI Vari Intense – coverage pattern (3-2-1 rule):
If the loudspeaker is mounted at H, the length of the coverage zone is 3H, the width is 2H, and the front row coverage is 1H.

FRX+ Systems
The FRX+ Series systems are designed specifically for rooms where reverberation is an issue and tight control over the direction of sound waves is required. Conventional small speakers are unable to cover the range below 2000 Hz. The wide beam width in the lower midrange frequency range is accompanied by severe distortion of speech and music in such rooms. FRX+ systems solve these problems by providing a high level of control over the direction of wide-range sound. Despite its moderate overall dimensions, the driver allows for wave propagation at small angles (down to 250 Hz) due to its coaxial design.
The FRX+ 640/660/940 cabinets are constructed of 7-ply plywood with a textured paint finish. The driver is protected by a black powder-coated steel grille. The FRX-122 model has a fabric-covered grille.

MH Series Stadium Loudspeakers
The MH Series stadium loudspeakers are designed for large stadiums and arenas where clarity and control of sound direction from the lower midrange down are absolutely essential. In 1974, EV pioneered the concepts of constant angular directivity (speaker angles with constant frequency) and Manifold technology (combining the output of several transducers into a single driver). The large-format MH Series loudspeakers feature multiple driver/speaker systems. The mid-sized MH Series loudspeakers are suitable for smaller spaces or can be used as a complement to the large-format loudspeakers.
Medium-sized MH Series loudspeakers
The mid-sized MH Series loudspeakers feature high sound quality and unified control of directivity at frequencies above 500 Hz. The mid-bass section uses the Aperiodic Enhancer tm phase amplifier, which ensures the output sound is combined with the sound of the high-frequency part of the loudspeaker. The high-frequency part of the loudspeaker contains a small HP driver of the patented EV Transplanar tm design, which provides an unusually melodic frequency response. The main loudspeaker bell is made of black laminate (polyester / fiberglass), reinforced with composite materials. Up to three units can be paralleled in active or passive mode without exceeding the minimum impedance of the amplifier.

MH Series Stadium Loudspeakers
MH Large Format Loudspeakers
MH large format loudspeakers use Manifold technology, which provides high sound quality and the ability to control the sound directionality. Thanks to the wide horn connector, the beam width lies in the frequency range above 250 Hz, which prevents bass "mixing" and increases the clarity of the sound. The high-frequency part of the loudspeaker uses a medium-sized HP driver, to which 2-inch single or dual drivers of any design are connected, allowing to increase the frequency characteristics up to 20,000 Hz. High-frequency drivers must be ordered separately. The dual driver doubles the power of high-frequency sound, which is important for large spaces. N / DYM speakers provide maximum sound power in high octaves, which is important in situations where it is necessary for modern music to be heard over a long distance. The large horn size provides frequency response down to 100 Hz, eliminating the need for additional low-frequency equipment. The mid-bass section features an Aperiodic Enhancer tm phase amplifier, which increases the high-frequency response in the mid-bass section. Its operating principle is based on the fact that at high frequencies only the tip of the cone is in motion, and therefore it automatically adjusts the acoustic load to the maximum sound output. The main body of the loudspeaker is made of solid black polyester and reinforced fiberglass. An internal protective grille built into the Manifold speaker protects it from mechanical damage. For low frequency sound (1 octave lower) it is recommended to use the subwoofer Rx 218S

RX Series
This series is designed as a flexible linear audio system, working under the control of the P-series amplifier-controllers, built on the world famous Precision Series TM. The RX series models are assembled from the best components of EV, including the DH7 driver, which uses the same 3.5-inch diaphragm as the popular ND-5 driver used in the X-Array TM series. There are also new components in this series, including an ergonomic carrying handle, making it easier, more comfortable and safer to carry than with conventional handles. Precision TM controllers are the best choice for use with the RX series, but other high-quality amplifiers can be used in combination with an external controller (for example, DX 38). The RX series models are best suited for situations where mobility and professional sound quality are required, or where professional sound quality is required in rooms. The RX Series models are constructed from black painted 18-ply plywood and protected by a black powder coated metal grille mounted on a foam core. All subwoofers have a 1-meter M20 pin built into the handle for mounting. It is also possible to install a threaded steel rod M20 (РСL 880). All subwoofers can be equipped with wheels for transportation. The top of the RX Series cabinets and the RX 218 S subwoofers are equipped with mounts for L-Track equipment used to move the loudspeakers through the air. L-Track is attached to the top and bottom of the RX 112/75 and RX 115/75 models. Two L-Track units are mounted on the top of the RX 212/75 and the side of the RX 218 S. The new asymmetrical rotating CD speaker allows the RX to be moved horizontally, inverted and vertically (except for the RX 212/75, which is acoustically designed for horizontal use only). SX tm Series
EV has made lightweight, compact and powerful speakers with foam inserts, rounded contours, concave drivers and suspension points very popular. Foam inserts ensure minimal resonance. SX systems (SX 300 and SX 500) reach 100 dB/1 W/1 m (SX 300 has a noise neutralizer), and the PI(X) series is specially designed for open-air applications. The unique shape of the Varipath tm speaker allows the sound from the speaker to reach even the corners of the room. Array brackets and special mounting systems provide the ability to easily mount the loudspeakers in various configurations. The dimensions and location of the suspension points of the SX 100, SX 300 and Sb 121 models are identical, which ensures the unity of the appearance of the models in the series. The SX 80 models are made of high-strength monolithic polystyrene and are designed to be installed on the SX 80 SM vertical stand, which is supplied separately. The black structured surface can be painted in a different color. Additional accessories can be used with the SX 100/300 and Sb 121 (SH Sx300 - protective cover and F200 - speaker stand).
