High-quality reproduction of musical content in a room depends not only on the sound equipment, but also on the parameters of the room, what and how the room is finished and the geometry of the hall. To create a comfortable sound in the hall, as in the recording studio, it is necessary to meet certain requirements for the finishing of the walls, ceiling and floor.
At the stage of designing and repairing the room, all the necessary criteria for improving the acoustics are taken into account, observing the main parameter - reverberation time. For certain types of halls, there is a standard for the reverberation time depending on the volume that must be observed.
In rooms where increased intelligibility of speech and musical content is required, special attention must be paid to the reverberation time. This is required in such rooms as: conference halls, lecture halls, concert halls, theater halls, as well as sports halls or stadiums to improve speech intelligibility.
Calculations of reverberation time and selection of materials for cladding are carried out in the specialized program EASE 4.4, where an accurate 3D model of the hall is created and materials for the walls, ceilings and floors are selected. Together with engineers and designers for this object, all the above materials and changes in the geometry of the room are agreed upon.
After all calculations and approvals for cladding materials have been made, the acoustic systems are distributed in the 3D model and the main acoustic parameters of the hall are calculated: speech intelligibility, music intelligibility, etc.
If it is not possible to renovate the room by replacing or selecting cladding materials, then it is necessary to select it at the initial stage. But without improving the acoustic properties of the room, it happens that the selected room is not suitable for playing music: long reverberation time, numerous reflections of sounds, humming at low frequencies, etc. All this must be eliminated and the acoustic characteristics of the hall must be brought to good sound.
